Malaysia Biorisk Management Enhancement Grant (BMEG) Program

The Malaysia Biosafety and Biosecurity Association (MBBA) is pleased to partner with the U.S. Department of State Biosecurity Engagement Program (BEP) to support Malaysia Biorisk Management Enhancement Grant (BMEG) Program.

The BMEG Program goal is to provide financial assistance for biosecurity and biosafety enhancements, such as laboratory security upgrades and biorisk management training, at biocontainment facilities in Malaysia. Individuals from public and private sector biocontainment facilities in Malaysia, including animal facilities, research facilities, diagnostic laboratories and hospitals are encourage to apply.

The grants will be administered by CRDF Global, an independent non-profit organization that promotes international scientific and technical collaboration.

All applications must be submitted in English through CRDF Global’s Electronic Proposal Submission (EPS) site The site will be active from 17 December 2013 – 24 February 2014. Only applications submitted through the EPS will be considered. Funding decisions will be announced no later than 31 May 2014.

The applications will be evaluated on:

  • Biosecurity / Biosafety Impact
  • Quality and Feasibility of the Project
  • Sustainability Potential
  • Budget Relevance
  • Clarity and Completeness of Application

BEP, the Malaysian Biosafety and Biosecurity Association (MBBA) and CRDF Global will evaluate the applications and inform each applicant whether their proposal was selected for funding. Each selected application will be awarded a maximum of USD 15,000 for a maximum of 6 months of work with the potential for extension under certain circumstances.

As part of the electronic proposal submission process, each applicant must complete the online application and then upload the completed Malaysia (BMEG) Proposal File, Institute Letter of Support (LOS) and Team Member(s) CV.
